Overview
During this three week online workshop you will explore different self-care practices which will focus on understanding the effects of emotional distress on your mind and body and how self-care can help you in your healing journey.
Trauma can be experienced in different forms, whether that be from an unexpected single event or prolonged and repeated, and can leave you with long term mental, physical and emotional distress which may lead to feelings of anxiety, fear and depression or physical symptoms like fatigue, a racing heart or digestive complications.
After a traumatic experience it may be difficult to process your feelings or know how to begin to heal. The School of Self-Care has created this online program to guide you on your path to healing and wellbeing.
By participating in this program you will discover the following:
- Learn why self-care is important to take care of your wellbeing
- Understand the effects of trauma on your mind and body
- Learn how to live more in the present moment
Week 1 – Understanding the Effects of Trauma on your Wellbeing and how to Heal Old Wounds
During the first week you will learn how trauma affects your wellbeing. When you experience a traumatic or distressing event your body automatically goes in to stress response. These responses are usually short lived but, in many instances, there are long term side effects which may lead to a variety of physical, mental and emotional symptoms. This is where self-care plays a key role in understanding your path to healing and improving your ability to cope with these effects.
Week 2 – The Importance of Nutrition and the Mind-Body Connection
Research shows there is a strong connection between the brain and the gut which can affect how your body functions. Emotional distress can alter how your gut processes food and can have direct gastrointestinal effects. Trauma may also affect your food choices, whether that be not wanting to eat at all or overeating comfort food. Nutrition can play an important role in your healing, and with the right knowledge and tools you can begin to make healthier choices and improve your welling.
Week 3 – How to Deal with Emotional Triggers and Bring Focus to the Present Moment
Triggers can be experienced in many ways. During this week we will explore different ways in which you can cope with these triggers and how to become aware of how your mind and body reacts when triggered. You will also learn how to bring focus back to the present moment which can reduce stress and improve your mental and emotional wellbeing.
